3. Active Intransitive Verbs as alternate for Passive Transitive Verbs For such alteration, position of subject remains the same. Examples: A lump has appeared under my chin./ A lump has been formed under my chin. [‘form’ is transitive but without a subject][‘appear’ is an active verb] Moon has appeared. / Moon has been formed. [‘appear’ is an inactive verb in this example.] The crowd dispersed after the compromise happened. /The crowd dispersed after a compromise was brought about/ (reached). The incident just happened./ The incident was brought about. The secret remained with her.
